Brake pads and rotors are due in about 3600 miles on my car. I asked the service manager if I should get different brand of pads and rotors for less brake dust problem. He told me I should get the BMW brand. Even its material is softer, it will provide best braking performance. Other brand could cause noise or unsmooth braking issues. Any comments ?

I hate the brake dust. Unfortunately (or fortunately!), the brakes were replace with OEM just before I purchased my car. Now I have to live with the dust for a couple years. Anyway, on all my other BMW's, I use Akebonno Euro Ceramic pads. No dust, no noise, excellent performance and durability.
I am going with the Akebonno's when brake replacement time comes around.

These dealer's will say anything to push their OEM rebranded garbage. You can't blame them I guess it's their job...
HAWK HPS pads FTFW!!! I can go weeks without washing my wheels and even then it's just some light brushing and a hose.
Not only that but they have a lot more bite and less fade than the OEM crap.

My BMW Center quoted $1178 for front and rear brakes, parts, labor (3.0 hours), misc shop fee and tax. This is *before* BMW CCA member discount (20%) on parts and labor. Includes pads, rotors, wear sensors, rotor bolts, anti-squeal paste, brake/clutch fluid flush. $900 for rear brake job is high. Maybe your labor rate is higher than mine.
