Need some help here, if anybody encountered this !
1 week ago: "DBC failure" appears on iDrive, "please drive slowly", and brakes are suddenly HARD as if blocked: Car is brought to dealer (not my dealer.... :( ): they find nothing, and although I complain, they sign off the car, assuring me that I can drive safely with my wife and kids back to Paris (400kms drive). Now, today, as I park in Paris: a big bang comes from the brake pedal, and here is what falls on the carpet : see picture. Attachment 68318 I stop the car. Car is now taken on a truck to my local dealer... :| Now I am totally angry for two reasons: ? 1st: how come such a problem happen on a recent (2006) car such as a BMW with no more than 20000 miles ? 2nd: how come a BMW authorized dealer miss a problem which was probably apparent 1 week ago and which could have led to dramatic consequences (loss of braking power on highway.....) If any of you encountered this issue, please advise me..... :blink: [ |

There are two springs in the pedal assembly. Looks like one of them broke under tension - probably causing the noise you heard. But I don't see any connection between the spring breaking and the DBC alert message. Certainly a 2-3 year old car with fewer than 20K miles should not have a brake system failure and these springs usually last the life of the car.
The one on the floor looks like the brake return spring. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mo...hg=35&fg=05 That said, I'm looking at your clutch pedal - and it looks pretty worn for such a low mileage car? Is it driven heavily in city traffic ? ? |

Thanks for the input ! So two problems to deal with ! The Spring and the DBC issue. Now, 20000 miles and a broken spring appears a bit low mileage doesn't it ? And indeed traffic is heavy over here in Paris ! Maybe I should have one for the auto box ! |

Go and discuss with your dealer. I would argue that it's indeed a bit "early" for such mechanical (spring) failure. Good luck Etienne |

The one on the floor looks like the brake return spring. ? The spring apparently was from the clutch pedal... Never heard of such a problem before that as my dealer mentioned (now I must be the lucky guy !!!! o:) ) ? The DBC problem is still unsolved... |
