My Ride: 2008 528i - Alpine White - Cream Beige - Light Poplar - Premium - Cold Weather - iPod/USB - Steptronic - Navigation
2007 335i (E92) - Monaco Blue - Black Leatherette - Dark Burl Walnut - Sport - Cold Weather
Hey everyone, i have a e92 335i and a e60 528i. The thing is, with the 528i, it seems as if the brake pedal is not very sensitive. I need to push down quite a bit to get the brakes to really start to slowing the car down and gradually give more force and then as the car comes to a near complete stop, let off for a smooth stop. With the 335i I give a slight amount of pressure (keeping it constant) and the car stops quickly and smoothly, not even jerking once i'm at a complete stop. my question is, is the 528i braking normally? is this how all e60 behave, or is something wrong?

Mines like that too. and if I put a substantial amount of pressure on the brakes, not slamming them but enough pressure it almost feels like the rotor grinds through.
nice choice in vehicles btw

Are your brakes close to needing service as per iDrive?

I remember back when I had my 545i, I test drove my friends '08 328i and the brakes felt super sensitive. I think the cars are just desinged for the audience it will be supplied to... Older people don't want super sporty/sensitive brakes.

While my car brakes differently from my old 325i, it does not brake like your 528i description. It brakes more like your 335i description; nice and gentle with constant pressure starting immediately.

I've always thought e60 brakes--and I've driven quite a few besides mine--feel softer than my e46's.

my 528i is a non-sport. It has slightly under 10k miles so i doubt the brakes are bad or anything is wrong with them, i was just making sure. iDrive says i have about 10k left on the brakes if i remember correctly. So non-sport/sport makes a difference?

I have an E60 and an E90. The E90 is newer with the Enhanced Braking System.
"We believe being able to stop quickly is even more important than being able to drive fast. That's why our enhanced braking system does more than just brake. If it's raining, it'll dry off the rotors. If you're stopped on a hill, it'll keep you from rolling. If you quickly pull your foot off the accelerator, it prepares to brake just as quickly. And, if you're braking repeatedly, it knows you need more force."
The brake drying helps the brakes stop better, as does the brake standby (when accelerator is lifted quickly). It also applies more force as needed to slow the vehicle down (when you're having to use the brakes constantly, or when the brakes get hotter and less efficient). It also has hill start assist (holds the brakes for about 0.5 sec on an uphill start) when transferring foot to the accelerator. My older vehicle E60, does not have any of these features. The E60 stops well, but the newer E90 braking system works better in comparison.
