Mine is showing the exact same thing - that the rears will wear out approx. 2k miles before the fronts - its been this way from about 10k - now done 21.5k. Interstingly, mine is also a 525d (April 2007 - LCI).
Could it be the traction control braking the rears when making "spirited" starts in the wet? I do tend to do that at a particular Tee junction...

Maybe I have answered my own question...doh..

I reckon this is a feasible conclusion, although would this really wear the rears faster than the fronts, as the front brakes do a much higher % braking than the rears under normal braking conditions? Having said that I guess it does take a reasonable element of force to reign in a spinning rear wheel (especially when only a single rear brake may be being applied). However, isn't the inital traction control function to 'cut engine power', and only then if still needed is a brake applied - I maybe wrong here, worth considering and debating though.

Bottom line is that I'm not going to loose any sleep over this! I do think the brakes are absolutely weighted / balanced perfectly for everyday drving - just my opinion.

Both together at 50K!

-well actually 1 pad on the inside passenger side on both sets were noticably "thinner", despite the idrive still saying 9K left!

My 525d is show opposite signs- Fronts are more worn than the rear.

The car has done 8500kms and the iDrive shows that the fronts need to be changed after 17,000kms while rears need to be changed at 20,000kms.

Also, of late my front brakes have begun sweaking a bit, should i be worried? What causes this sound?

Squeaking is result of dust going in to the brake pads after you washed the car, it will go away after a few spirited driving and brake
We live in a much congested traffic condition than rest of the world. We brake almost 4 times more than other part of the world. So it is pretty normal out brakes wont last more than 20 thousand KM. We then just have to turn the rotors and change all four sets of brake pads.

@sahil Please upload some pics of your lovely E60

LoL ...ya we do pay through are noses for these machines.

My first choice on the plates was single digit 5 but the price qouted for that was insane so i settled for 525 instead as my 2nd best choice. And i thought i'd be unique, last week i saw an exact same color and spec 525d with the same damn number ! We both had a laugh lookin at each others plates.
