Should I order parts from Garry @ BMW of Newport & have an independent shop change my brakes or BMW dealership?

Genuine BMW brake pads & rotors I've never had problems with them except for squealing. When I slow down to a stop it would squeal so bad it was quite embarrassing. Car never vibrated when braking. 88K miles using genuine parts.

I had Trinity Autosports change 4 rotors & 4 brake pads which was suppose to silence my brake squeal. I chose Cool Carbon because a lot people on various forums said it's very quiet and Trinity recommended it as well. They sprayed anti brake squeal, worked for a while but after 5 or so car washes squeal is back. They even tied up my brake sensors which I thought was a great idea so they don't touch my pads.

At 99K miles less than one year I took my car into Firestone and bought their lifetime alignment service since my steering wheel shakes driving speeds of 60mph to 75mph. I asked them to check to see why my car shakes when braking at high speeds as well.

They said my rotors overheated? They showed me large black rings on my rotors? (I'm no mechanic so I don't know if he is BS'ing me). So they recommended I change my brake pads & rotors again. I was like NO these pads & rotors are less than a year old. I am the only driver, I'm gentle with my car no hard accelerations, no hard braking. I didn't even bed in my brakes either.

Savage BMW has 2 years/unlimited miles on parts and labor warranty it will cost me ~ $1300 tax & labor included for everything.

If I went independent route it's much cheaper but not sure what type of warranty I would get for using genuine parts but having an indy shop install it?
BTW when I changed my sparks plug, my indy mechanic put my car on a lift and did a quick visual inspection bushings & control arm he said they looked okay.

Any advice is appreciated just don't want to waste money again.

Check with Trinity and see what type of warranty they offer on the rotors or at least take some pictures and see what he thinks of it. If they are R1Concept rotors, you will have a 1 year warranty.

I checked with Nerwyll he said there's no warranty, he's pretty good at responding back quickly via email but since has not responded back.

This bad experience and some what pricey mistake makes me kind of worried I'll waste money again when I could of spent a little more to get genuine.

I've been driving the car 80K+ miles without the slightest signs of vibrations from braking, braking at high speeds. This one change going aftermarket hasn't been good, should of put that money towards a CIC nav retrofit.

I definitely want to go back to genuine BMW parts that 24 month/unlimited miles parts & labor warranty is very appealing to me. I'll have to ask them what's considered defective and what's not...

When you replaced the pads and rotors did you bed them after the installation?

from my experience, you don;t necessary have to bend them in. At my shop, we always go with OEM and nothing else.

After a drive, do you immediately wash your car? If so, the immediate cold from the hot rotors can warp them.

I would have an independent shop turn (machine) your rotors to remove any warp or built up pad residue. Your braking will be smooth again and that is by far the cheapest route.

Could it be the rotors were directional vaned to one side and were put on the wrong side. it can happen. So instead of the rotor turning clockwise on either side it turns counter clockwise and cooling doesnt take place? If so have the rotors machined and checked for directional vanes (cooling fins) inside the rotor. Its not always that the drill holes pattern constitutes the direction of the rotor. The ones I sold to Socale39 were directional and was adamant about which side they were on and I even wrote in big font LF RF.

Wow that sucks, makes me wonder if I will get aftermarket rotors or not now.

stoic1: no to densely packed here in socal, with my luck i'll either have a cop waiting to give me a ticket for driving erratically or someone will call 911 reporting a car trying to drag race or something.

john@Motorcepts: Those Mtech V3 angel eyes are great if you don't want to cut open a set of new headlights to put Orion's in they're pretty bright I like them. To answer your question no, there's always a few cars ahead of me at the car wash, plus vacuuming so I'm sure my rotors have time to cool down before they wash my car.

Stephen Max: Every indy shop I call to try and get my rotors resurfaced they kind of laugh and say "I didn't think people still do that, BMW rotors are so thin as is, you should always replace them when changing brakes."

525iEnjoy: Joe @ Trinity is pretty good with E60's I believe I don't think he will put them on incorrectly.

Have to agree with Stephen Max there, resurface the rotor makes more sense for your case here since the rotor is still fairly new. Can't hurt to try.
