I have a 530i with 4000km on it (2485miles) and my Idrive service menu shows that I have about 28000km (17400miles) left till changing break pads.
This means about 32000km (20000miles) lifetime for break pads. In my oppinion that is too low. I had an Audi before (I was driving with very heavy foot) and it lasted about twice as much. Even on big VW Touareg it is about 50000km.
What is your experience guys?

Well, thanks all you guys. So far it seems like I'm doing pretty well on BMW's average (which is not the best average lifetime)
On the other hand, the breaks with this car are pretty good. So far the best I've ever driven.

My Ride: 2007 Titanium Gray 550i, with sport, nav, HUD, Logic7, sat radio, cold weather, rear side airbags, rear seat heaters, and it goes like a bat outta hell!
Last time I was in for service at just under 9k miles, my SA told me I needed to replace brake pads. They were going to do it during that service, but had to order the pads, so now I'm waiting to go back in and have that done. Idrive said around 10k miles was my replacement mileage, and apparently if you are within certain miles, the dealer can replace under warranty. I guess I'm heavy footed too......seems way early for a brake replacement, and I really don't ride my brakes...But, they are free.......and OH BOY, lots of new brake dust to clean off the wheels!!
If I was paying for my brakes, I might be a bit more concerned....perhaps even upset. I really don't think I've ever had another vechicle that required new brakes so fast.....not even big heavy pickup trucks.

I've got around 51.000 kms and the idrive service is showing:
16.000 kms in the front and 23.000 kms in the back until the replacements.
My brakes used to squeal a lot. I took the car for service in the brakes and they told me that they weren't under the warranty. They did somethig to the pads. The squealing is much inferior right now.
The brakes work just fine but i'm getting suspicious about the changing time............ i think it's too long ....
