When I bought my 2004 525i it had 36k miles. According to the iDrive system, the front and rear brakes had about 30K left on the front and 36K on the rear. Now at 100K, the iDrive system says I have 24K left on the front and 30K on the rear. I thought something was wrong with the iDrive but I checked my brakes and there's plenty of "meat" left on the pads. I do a lot of highway driving but I've never had pads last so long. What the hell are these pads made of? Has anyone pads lasted this long?

Mileage on the motorway is pretty much with little braking. If you are doing a lot of mileage on the motorway then I can easily see how they can do over 100k miles. In addition, if you are the type to brake early with slow gradual braking then this will use less brake pad than fast harsh braking. I always leave lots of room from the car in front so I can maximise on engine braking. This is also good for the brakes.

Manual trans. cars go longer on the same pads. That said, I think mine might be an exception (I need an excuse to get new breaks)

As soon as I saw the thread title I thought to myself "gotta be an American" , you have any bends and corners where you live ??

Only kidding mate, but 100k on a set of pads is pretty impressive, im guessing you either dont have corners or you drive like Miss Daisy
