My Ride: 2008 550i M-Sport
Default Brake pad wear

I have a 2008 550i with M-sport package. My brake pads measure 3 mm currently (all four corners) at 90,000 miles. My extended maintenance expires at 100k and April 23rd of 2013. Are there any reccomendations, outside of abusing the car, to make sure I can get a set of free brakes? Maybe they will wear out just in time?

Thanks

Question

Extended maintenance covers the brake pads? I thought that was a wear and tear item.

I predict your sensors should trigger at any time ... certainly before the warranty expires.

Here's a thought... lay a piece of low grit sandpaper on a flat and level surface, hold it stationary and sand the pads down. Finish it off with a smoother grit sandpaper. That should do the trick.

Does anyone have a recommendation for replacment brake pads other than OEM? I have 2007 530Xi and was quoted $1,600 for a brake job by the dealership! An earlier post on the forum had some recommended brands of brake pads that worked well and didn't produce so much brake dust like the OEM does.

I have same year and model as you do. Yes, there has been quite a bit of discussion about this on the board already, like this post that I initiated.

I ended up buying my own parts online and had an indie install them. Total bill for new pads and front rotors was just under $800.

The I drive claims 6000 miles on the front and 21,000 miles on the rear. Yet the rears are thinner by a hair. The dealer said the light turns on at 1 mm of wear left. Does anyone have a picture of what happens? In my old E90 it just started counting down from 5000 miles like a reverse odometer.
