My front brake pad warning light went off about 2 months ago. I made my appointment and got them replaced. At the same time I checked my rear brake pad information. The mesg at that time said i have about 1700 miles left in them. BMW would not replace my rear but only the front set.

I've driven about 1200 miles since. I check the service mesg for my rear breaks again and the mesg says I have 1700 miles to go. HUH? How could this be? Can someone clue me in?

Thanks

Teriyaki

Have you ever update the CIP software?
What CIP version do you have now?
Have you ever change the rear brake pads?
What mileage do you have?

Well, the sensors tend to adjust themseves over the time.

The front pads usully worns out about half faster than the rear.

So your case it is within the tolerance.

Do not worry!

When you had your front brake pads replaced, did they also replace your rotor discs? I was told by my salesman that they also replace the rotors when brake pads are replaced to keep the integrity of BMWs breaking system. But would love to know if they actually do it...

Concerning your question about the mileage not going down for the rear brakes, I think the sensor changes quite a bit based on the amount of pad left and your driving habits. For example, iDrive on my car said my brakes had 7000 miles left last month, but when I went back and looked a month later, it said they had 9000 miles left! I think iDrive is just continuously reevaluating the amount of pad left and when it thinks they are ready to be changed....

The discs are usually replced with the second or third set of pads.

That is around 100,000 km's or approx. 60,000 miles.

Teriyaki, how do you get that nick? Do you eat a lot of teriyaki? Own a teriyaki restaurant perhaps? I love teriyaki!

Yea +1 what everyone else says, my change oil warning goes up and down. I figure it's the same w/ all the sensors.

I had my E60 in for it's first oil change a couple of weeks ago @ 18,000 KMS
(11,250 Miles) My I drive is saying that I need new front pads @ 19,000KMS
(11,875 miles). When BMW did the inspection my S/A advises that there are 10mm
left on Front Pads and 13mm on Rear Pads. He advises that this is only light wear and I am good for awhile ( Thank God). I am not so sure how accurate the I-Drive is in this regard.

Same thing for the gas measurement. When I fill up it shows be 650 KMS (406 Miles) until empty. I am lucky to get 500 KMS on a full tank of gas.

One other thing, on my I-Drive it shows me at what point I need to do maintenance I.E. Oil change @ 18,000 KMS Front Pads @ 19,000 KMS.

My I-Drive does not count down and say in 1700 KMS My pads are gone?

Can this be because I do not have NAvigation Package?

I thought my sensor was stuck on 1700 or something. I thought it was based on mileage but it must be on some sort of a self checking system (i hope).
THanks
