Hi, my 2007 is at the dealer for the first time being serviced.

The car groans when you lift up from the brake. This is not a squeal when braking from high speeds. It is more of a groan when lifting up or when braking at slow speeds or at a complete stop. The groan is very severe, and people look at my car when the noise is made. I did not buy the car to have people look at it for that reason.

I really hate when dealers tell you that "all 5-Series do that." If that were true, no one would buy the car after test driving it. My dealer will look at the issue on Monday after I told him that I did not want to take the car back today unless the issue was resolved.

Does anyone have any advice relating to this issue (aside from telling me that all 5-series make the noise)?
Maybe another dealer service tech did something that I can convey to my service tech to save time.

Right now the dealer is telling me that the problem is likely caused by my 19" #166 wheels and tires. He even suggested that my hubcentric rings may be causing the problem (huh?). My response is that the wheels should not affect the brake noise when I am at a complete stop or driving less than 5mph.

I am hoping just to get a nice driving car. Any comments or words of advice? Has anyone else found a resolution with a 2007 model (the pre-2007 models had sensor issues that do not apply here).

Best,

I have a 05 545I and the brake groan when I take the car off park position. Especially, after I wash the car. But it goes away after a few brake stop. I know that if the brake rotor surface is uneven or the brake pads worn abnornmal then the brake will make the noise. Have the dealer inspect the rotor and pads. If they can't find the problem then I suggest that you take your car to a good BMW specialist repair shop and have them take diagnose. Good luck!!

My 530i does it, My X5 does it, My 328i did it, I think my 318is did it. It's a BMW thing when you first start driving and it has been parked.

Monaco, my 2007 does the same thing. I posted on this groaning, creeking noise in "Brake Noise - Help". I have not gone back to the dealer because my car seems to be getting a lot quieter as I put more miles on it. I am currently at 650. I agree with E60 lover, as you drive around and the rotors heat up it also gets quieter.

I was going to see how things went for the first 1000 miles or so and then maybe have it checked out at the dealer if I still hear it at that point. One option would be for you to try the bedding process, feel free to search on that topic. Good luck.

Mine makes a lot of noise almost like a mechanical noise everytime I brake at low speeds, like in a parking lot or when the car is coming to a stop. The thing is, my car didn't used to do that when i first got it. I dono, it just never bothered me cuz I don't hear it unless I ride with the windows down.. Cheers...

Exactly the same for me. I find that annoying. My dealer told me everything is fine.

Interesting... there is some noice after washing but it goes away after first braking. Now I must also start listening more carefully, this was really new for me. I wonder if the noice is different btw. manual and automatic gear vehicles Mine is manual.

the best way to find out if your car really squeaks is after a long drive or so, roll down the window when you're coming to a stop or in a parking lot, you should be able to hear it because thats true for all cars most brakes only squeak in low speed like parking and light pressing on the brake... coming from a few japanese cars, it happens really often the bad news is, i've never had that problem with any of the MBs i've had... cheers... hope to hear more, I might be bringing it to the dealer to see what they have to say...

This is not a squeak while braking, it is a groan lifting your foot off the brake pedal, and a groan braking at slow speeds. If you have ever had your anti-lock braking kick in, it is the same type of feeling, but all the time.

My MBs never did make the noise. My loaner X3 makes a little noise, but not like I am having with the 530i. I would be happy to have the X3 level of noise if I could get that.
