Hey everyone. I recently bought a 2009 528i xDrive to use as a daily driver. I’ve been having an issue where the amber brake light is illuminated on the dash and I get a message saying “gear can be engaged without brake” on the iDrive screen upon start. ISTA states the “brake light/brake light test switch implausible”. Upon further investigation, the brake light test switch is always in the closed position but receives 6 volts when the engine is operating even if the brake pedal is not operated. Neither of these states are correct. Has anyone experienced an issue like this? I’ve ran out of ideas as to what could be causing the issue.

You have a lot of possibly related codes. It may be more complicated than just a brake light switch assembly.
If you have a EWS code, does the car start?

It does start I took it on a 1k mile road trip last weekend and it ran really well just doesn’t have cruise control because of the light. I am starting to suspect a DME malfunction the more I looked into the combination of issues so I’m gonna pull that and have it evaluated.
