My brake fluid needs to be changed. I will be getting new rear brakes installed this Saturday and will top up my brake fluid. However, the Red service light is currently on and it says my service for brake fluid is overdue. Can I wait the two-three days and continue driving (30km a day) or should I take the car in ASAP (tomorrow)...

Thanks

Dude, you can certainly wait 2 or 3 days, it's when you get to the 2 or 3 month mark you need to start to worry, but a few days? You'll be fine

I think you'll find that the Brake Fluid Service is on a two-year countdown. It is not a mileage-based service. BMW simply wants fresh brake fluid every two years to eliminate contaminants, such as water, to foul the brake system components. Thus, you can afford to schedule this at your convenience. You'll want to flush all the old fluid out and fill with fresh.

I also think there is a separate warning for low brake fluid--you mentioned topping it off. If this were the case, you might have a leak, and I would address this immediately.

Your brake fluid levels will fall as your brakes wear.

When new brakes are fitted, the pistons will be further back into the callipers and the brake fluid level will rise again.

If you top up BEFORE a brake change, then unless the fluid was WELL down, your top up will be wasted as it will overflow when the pistons are pushed back.

Leave it alone and just get it changed when the brakes are replaced.
