Noob here..............................................

2006 530i with a lot of highway miles (88k). My "change brake fluid" warning is on. Is this the correct interval? Is this a dealer thing? I have replaced the brake linings myself and I do my own oil changes (Mobil One 5W30) every 10k. The car has been flawless except for a stuck VANOS which was cleaned and re-insatlled by the dealer (THAT is another story).

I plan to keep this vehicle for at least another 120K so answers should be given with this in mind.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

You're going to find a lot of debate about this subject. Personally, now that I'm no longer under maintenance, I'll change it every year or so.

Normally should change the brake fluid after 2 years usage.

Thanks for the reply!

That is well beyond my time allowance. What are the benefits to changing the brake fluid that often? I drive about 35k/year almost all highway.

BTW....I LOVE this car.

Thanks again for the input.

You need to change brake fluid because of moisture contamination. The more moisture, the avg. boiling point of the fluid decreases, decreasing your ability to stop and potentially causing further brake issues.

I'd change every 30k miles or 1 year. Up to you though to follow the 1 yr because brake fluid flushes can get very expensive.
