just get your wheels powder-coated matte black, or get matte black wheels, and you won't have to worry about brake dust anymore

As for using your transmission to save your brakes ... well that's up to you ... but BMW transmissions (especially automatics) are known to die at an early age. In my opinion, it's a lot cheaper to replace brake pads and rotors than to replace a transmission.

Agreed on transmissions dying early. My 5 was getting crazy kicks each time the auto transmission would switch gears. Took it to BMW in the last few 1000 KM of the warranty to get it fixed. They had to replace the whole thing! Don't even want to imagine how much that would have cost!

I get small kicks every now and then and I swear it makes me so nervous I get a sinking feeling in my stomach since I'm no longer under warranty. I hate to hijack a thread but is this normal?

Yea, the sinking feeling in your stomach is pretty much normal when you are out of warranty.

is anyone else experiencing this.

The brakes are about 3 months old and done at BMW.
How lond does a set of brakes usually last on a e60???
I'm on original pads and rotors at 51k for my 545. When I owned my X5, I would need a new brake job almost every year and a half.
