I am considering having some semi minor body work done at a reputable auto body shop (I would be paying out of pocket, no insurance company involvement).

I am wondering under what circumstances would the body work be reported to CARFAX? This place is professional and does look at VIN numbers (for color matching and pricing, most likely).

My concern is that the body work (damage) could end up on the CARFAX report for my car?

Any thoughts are welcome. thank you.

You can get into an accident, involve the insur. co and still most likely not have it show up on carfax. Carfax is not worth the paper it is written on. It was created for used cardealerships. Autocheck by Experian is much better in terms of accidents. That being said I would ask the body shop if they report to either company.

*edit* they wouldn't have an accident to report the more I think about it, you should be good.
