Sorry forgot to add that my car was updated to 16.2, yes Sirus requires a software reload the dealer had the car for two full days...

I have a similar write-up in my manual about Weather Band, but I don't have it in my car....

Don't sweat this. I have weather band and I don't use it. Sound quality is poor and the info is of little use. Plus it is redundant if you have SIRIUS (which has weather reports for many large markets) or a local AM news station which broadcasts weather reports on a regular basis.

I have NAV and NOAH WB in my Mar 2004, ksc. The WB works good, just like any WB radio. Usually at least one station available no matter where I go.

You don't need MP3, regular CDs sound so much better. Oh and it's so much fun changing all those CDs while you're driving....

Interesting, when I had my Sirius installed at the dealer, no software update was required. Well then, it does seem that either you need Nav or factory installed Sirius to get the mp3 working...

JDN, thanks, I wish I had the WB in my car. Would useful seeing how we seem to have to evacuate at least once a year of late for a big hurricane...

I think the weather band is only utilizing a local AM radio station broadcasting with a weather band.? For example, I can hear weather on the weather band AND on like two tiny AM stations locally.? So maybe your area doesn't have a small station broadcasting a weather band.

There are seven frequencies that NOAA uses to broadcast weather reports across the US. The channels are above the FM band -- clearly not AM. Channel 1 is used here and transmits on 162.550 MHz.

I have no idea why some people have it and some don't. It comes in handy once in a while and I sometimes missed it on the E39 (my E30 has it) but not enough to worry about it. Now I have two weather sources, NOAA and Sirius...

Mine has weatherband, but the AM reception is incredibly bad. My wife's Sunbaru also has weatherband and the same station comes in clear........

Weather Band is apparently included in the 2006 models. I got a 2006 525 loaner yesterday while my 545 is having SAT added, and the 525 has "WB" in the menu along with AM/FM/CD. It is a direct link to the National Weather Service NOAA radio.

Mine is a 2005. I have WB.

Uh, no? I'm going to assume you're being sarcastic. Just for the less-knowledgable who might become misinformed by your post:

Try encoding them properly. Using APS (Alt Preset Standard) VBR, there are about 2 or 3 audible markers that distinguish it from redbook. I'm told by experts that these should be inaudible except in the most specialized of cases and only if you know what to listen for. Check out this thread - it's pretty good:

I use Poikosoft's Easy CD-DA Extractor, which makes it easy to use these tools to get well-encoded MP3s.
