BMW: user error post!
Here it goes:
Some time ago, some one posted a msg about better heat distrubution thru the I/D. Oh well, I went ahaed and did the same.
About two weeks ago, it was very hot in new york. So I said, hey let me test my A/C. Oh boy, my A/c was blowing heat! I was puzzled and said "wow only a year and already giving me a/c problem." --Guess I need to call the dealer.
The next day I started to monk around with my I/D and saw my bug.
Oh well..! good thing i did not take my car for service if not, I would look like a fool

What was wrong with the I/D settings that caused your ac to blow hot air? Many thanks

I'm guessing he had that one setting in Vent settings set to "orange". Ya know, that one setting sort of in the middle that you set to blue (cool) or orange (warm).

Thanks for the insight, much appreciated. Does that mean I should be changing my I/D "temp" setting for summer or winter conditions? If I "check" the auto box at the bottom, will that override the other settings? I have had my car since 11-03, maybe I should read the manual - again. Thanks again for your help.

To answer your question, selecting Auto does not effect this setting. I have it set at neutral (one white bar). The system is designed to always blow cooler air at the top. So if you select a higher temperature, expect to see results from the bottom of the cabin. Its about overall comfort and not the temp of the air coming from the vents. The manual suggeests you direct the upper vents past you and not on you. I tend to fiddle with that setting more than I should because I like air on my face.
