Hi everyone,

I purchased BMW's Tire and Wheel protection when I took delivery of my vehicle. In the last 6 months I've had two tires replaced. Although the terms and conditions say unlimited replacements (wheels or tires), has anyone ran into problems with too many claims in a time span? I have no idea how they make money off this with the price of these tires.

You're on a good deal if you don't have limitations. My policy allows for tyres only, not wheels as there appears to be issues with the 172 wheels cracking easily.

I'm allowed 6 tyres in a 2 year period. The policy was £300, the tyres run at £250 each, so again, I'm at a bit of a loss on the numbers thing. There are a few unlikely ways that I see this making sense:
1. As it takes about a week to get a tyre changed under insurance you will forgo the policy and visit your local tyre place
2. You somehow have 2 years of flat-free motoring. Unlikely, however over 4 years, I put 110,000 on a passat with no punctures
3. They get some backhanders from the tyre companies for making us use RFT's.

If you've got it, use it!

That would of been great for me having to get 3 new wheels in a year time frame, thanks to my 124's cracking so easily. All that will be a thing of the past starting this Wednesday when my new wheels come in.

What the dealer doesn't tell you is that they get reimbursed from the manufacturer. I recently had to replace a runflat that went bad.... the dealer charged me $500, but I saved the tire, called the manufacturer, and they said all of their runflats are warrantied in the first year for any reason (including impact). I was refunded my money, but it made me mad that the dealers fail to mention this detail.
