I have a 2008 500i...I was wondering if I could upgrade the firmware/software to match those in the 2009 BMW's and up. Is this possible, difficult? Has anyone here done it before?

As far as I know you have to go to the dealership to have the lastest firmware install (if you dont have it already), since most likely you are under new car warranty and service, I would just ask your SA to be sure you have the latets Rev next time your bring your car in for service.

if your is a 2008, i take you have the old style four compass menu, the one your thinking about in the 2009 E60 is completely different and can not be upgraded through a software update.

I thought it would just take a firmware update or something like that to have it changed..

+1 on what Blood said, I didnt realize you were referring to the I-Drive system itself. Yep thats a totally different animal, that would then be a "hardware" update!!

2010 NAV discs work great, but no shocking upgrades from what you have now!!
