Question I have and I expressed this to the service manager was that all of the tires were wore on the inside tread, I've had past experiences with this, so I asked him should I probably have the car aligned, and he said we will put on your winter tires and rims and test the car out, if it turns one way or another we'll have to get that done. I then said to him well if the car is toeing out and all 4 tires are doing this wouldn't the car still go straight and I might eventually wear these snow tires on the inside also. He said no so I thought I would get some opinions on here

Thanks

New tires $1800, alignment $150- I would get an alignment before you waste 4 more tires.

Thats what I said to the manager, but he didn't think so, I'll just go back in and have it done.

When I had the dunlops replaced I had them do an alignment just to protect the invesment.

By the way on cars with active stearing an aligment is about $300.

Personally, I am confused on this point. ipse dixit, who knows a lot about cars, IMO, says, as I recall, that excessive toe out will cause the sort of wear that appears on the Dunlops. On the other hand, we get our "older-style" Dunlops repaced for free. If toe out is the issue, then why do we get our tires replaced for free. The bottom line for me is that I doubt that toe out is the issue with the Dunlops (but, of course, I am far from sure). What I have said suggests that you may be wasting money doing an alignment. You could think of the money spent on an alignment as tire insurance. But, those in the insurance know say not to insure if you will have no trouble covering the expected loss. Following this rule, one will come out ahead in the long run by not insuing against "small" expected losses. Given these thoughts, I would not get an alignment. Also, you would not be losing $1,800 on tires because, no matter what, you'd get significant use out of them. And, even my PS2's cost only about $1K before taxes. Do RFT's cost $1.8K either before or after taxes? If not, then what tires cost $1.8K before or after taxes?

I was going to but the service manager said I would be wasting my money, because I was willing to have it done, I know it can't hurt but he said I would be wasting my time and money, he said it's not the car it's the tires.
Only thing that concerned me was that I know don't have the regular rims and tires, I had them put on my style 122 and my dunlop winter tires, what I'm worried about that if it was a toe out problem caused by the runflats, it would carry over to the new winter tires, I expressed this feeling to him also and he said I would be wasting my money, I have to go back there and pick up my summer rims and the new tires once they get them in and make sure that if I do have this problem that he knew about it before so I wouldn't be stuck with a set of ruined winter tires.

Mine was $150 at the dealer. Everyone remember that the suspension on the E60 is mostly aluminum which is a light and soft metal which would tend to bend more easily and those of you with the sport package and runflats will transfer more bump energy to the suspension which again increases the incidence of deformation of the suspension components and thus the alignment.
Drive em straight!

Also thanks to this forum I was well informed/prepared when I reported tire noise to the SA. All tires were replaced under warranty no question asked.

I had about 17,000km on the tires when they were replaced. On the work order, there was no mentioningof the inside tread 'feathering' condition that's described in the TSB. But I'm 'happy' they replaced the tires. Well I'm not really happy that they replaced the tires, I was thinking of using non rfs.

I recently had my runflats changed for free at about 11K miles. The dealer "strongly suggested" an alignment. Total was $300 (my car has active steering which apparently is trickier to align).
