here's what you can do with it:

BMW Online Introduction

For the first time the technical advantages of the Internet can be
utilised for the driver on an individual basis: providing a mobile
Online WAP Portal that's fully and extensively integrated into the
car - guaranteeing you an unprecedentedlevel of user comfort, stability and safety.

BMW Online is accessible from wherever you may be via your mobile telephone, home PC and of course, from the cockpit of your BMW. You can obtain up-to-date and personal information - from the latest news and weather to emails and new navigation tools. Welcome to a whole new chapter in mobile communication.

Ready to get going with BMW Online?
BMW Online is currently only available in BMW 5, 6 and 7 Series. You require the following options; BMW Navigation Professional, a compatible phone system and BMW Online. Afterwards all you have to do is register for BMW Online through your local BMW Dealer.

Email Account

With BMW Online you have your own email account
(firstname.surname@bmw-online.co.uk). It lets you receive emails
and respond to them using predefined personal responses.

Address Book

To make sure you can use your personal address book en-route,
simply load it onto your BMW Online portal from your PC or PDA. All data
is then synchronised with your email account and navigation system.
This means you can reply quickly to your emails or let yourself be navigated to a selected address.

Online Content

City Guide
With the City Guide you have all the information to make time spent in
unknown cities as pleasant as possible. The City Guide will supply you with tips
about the hotels the town has to offer, find you restaurants or tell you what
happens to be on at the theatre or cinema. Once you have made up your mind you can let the Navigation System guide you there.

News and Weather
Find out about what you want, when you want. Call up specific news that really interests you at any time. Whether it's politics, sport or entertainment, be it local, national or international - you will always be in the know with BMW Online.

Business and Markets News
Need to know the latest news from the world of business and the stock markets? Use BMW Online to call up the latest business news on your Control Display.

Business Directory
With the help of our Business Directory you can access constantly updated classified information with telephone numbers and addresses. This data can be easily transferred to your Navigation System.

It's great we have these kids on our Forum.

I wouldn't now s**t about the net and the new trends without them
But I wonder if the kids feel they are learning anything from us?

no, it's not standard. it's an option you can get if you have professional navigation. you have to pay a fee to enable it. that's about 150 euros a year. no, you don't need any GPRS devices or a phone. it works just in the iDrive by the normal antenna.
no, that's not what i mean. you can go to BMW Online through the menu communication and then BMW Online. i'll post pics tonight when my dad is back from work. promised
Okay thanks for the info .
So you can upgrade it if you want just by paying that 150 ? a year since i have the professional gps?
What can you all see with it; the weather, most important news,...?
If it is just that... not really interested since you already can search for the main things (like gasstations,...) on the gps to buy the newspaper yourself . Then you have more details of the news and weather and you don't need to sit in your car whole the time, but can lay on the beach for that 1 ? a paper instead of 150 ? a year .

EDIT: while typing this message i didn't saw your other post about the functions sese. Sorry for that .

There you have a point. But i meant only when i'm not home i would buy the paper sometimes (like on vacation). I don't pay 365 ? a year since i always get the newspaper for free from my neighbour when he read it (around 9 am in the morning i already get it). But when you can check your emails etc. why not .
