Folks, i am wondering if a BMW original synthetic has special aditives that are different from the Castrol Synthetic that BMW actually recommends using?
I have someone telling me here that if you use Castrol Vs BMW original, you then have to change the oil every 3-5,000 miles and not the 15. Can anyone verify this fact or fiction?

Fiction-I was at the service center the other day and not anymore but the first 7k or so my engine tended to burn a quart of oil every3-4k which they also said was normal-I drove really hard, and it was a new engine-anyway..

Anyway they were selling quarts of bmw synth oil and I specifically asked them that question-I had used Castrol Sytec (i think) the highest grade castrol 5-30 oil and asked if that was any diff than the bmw-he said it makes no diff whats so ever-but felt bad that I had to buy oil in a brand new car so gave me 3 quarts of the bimmer stuff. I dont even think it was any more expensive (could be wrong) than castrol syntec.

Anyway makes no diff-and doesnt change your service interval. If you are changing your own oil though and planning to keep the car long term I would guess changing it every 5-7k anyway is probably better.

I know if I was not leasing the car and planning to keep it long-term I would invest in changing the oil every 5-7. I also live where it is 120 degrees 5 months of the year so that probably does not help engine wear

This is what I do right now to keep the engine in tiptop.
I change it just when it starts to turn black which is about 7000km to 10000km
