I got Navagation in my new 550i and got to use it on a mini vacation last week for the first, in fact this was the first time I have ever used Nav in any car. It was awesome, we found or way all over Naples Florida, I loved the way our gal says " you have arrived at your destination, very cool system.

Heres my problem, the manual regarding us of Navagation IMO stinks, I don't know what voice commands work with Nav or how to find a coffee shop, I'm addicted to Starbucks. Is their a supplemental booklet that I should have gotten or a link that I can download explaining all of the features?

I know have 1,200 miles on this car and can safely say that this car is without a doubt the fastast, best handling and comfortable auto I've ever owned and I've had a bunch of cars to compare this one with.

I love this car, the 550 is so much more car than my 2004 545 was, it's unbelievable.

In the UK I use BMW Assist to tell me where my nearest Starbucks is. I just say 'I'm in Manchester, take me to my nearest Starbucks' and down the line comes the full postal address, ready for adding to my Nav system. Wonderful !

How does it work, or do you have to be in Navagation or do you just press talk button on the console? Also where can I find proper instructions on how to opporate Navagation and utilize all of its features?

Unfortunately, the manual is lacking for the Navigation system. You really need to sort of learn the basics (as it seems you have already done) and then experiment/play to get the rest.

Don't wait until you go on another trip, just use it every day to get familiar with it.

As far as the points of interest (POI) like Starbucks, don't get your hopes up that it'll work that easily. There are POIs in the database but BMW doesn't make it very simple to use them (like the Japanese cars do.) Take a look at the "Information" screen to see your choices.

Also, I don't know if the US version of BMW Assist can feed the car with addresses (please correct me if I'm wrong) like Boxterfeet said his does. I know that there are some features that we don't get over here and that might be one of them...

I've just added Starbucks to my DVD. Along with stuff like WiFi Hotpsots, Speed Camera, Supermarkets, etc.

It's not too difficult to edit your DVD. Perhaps you might like to try that.

Have a look here

Also, there's a website to show you exactly how (by E60.net member mathmos) - bmwnavaddpoi.co.uk

USA POI info here

And a ZIP of Starbucks POI (USA)

Banglebox 530d - you offering any copies of your DVD - it would certainly be great if I could see when I was near a Starbucks, rather than go and hunt them out ? And I don#t think I'm technical enough to amend my own DVD !
