BMW e60 bumper and fender gap?
Hi,
I have jsut recently purchased a BMW 535d and it appears there is quite a large gap between front fenders and bumper... when i have asked a bodywork shop about this he claims there is quite a gap generally with the e60. Can please have some picutures to compare and i will also post some for reference when have taken some.
Also is there a way of adjusitng this to reduce the gap?
Thank you in advance

id be interested to know what you find out on this.
on my E61, there is a noticeable gap between the bumper and where it meets the headlights and hood.
i believe the front bumper cover can be adjusted by loosening some of the bolts and slightly re positioning it before tightening. perhaps someone removed your front bumper at some point and didnt align it properly when they put it back on.

I did remove and reinstall my front bumper and yes there is some adjustment possible but not easy and I decided it was easier to live with the different spaces.......

Thanx for replying guys and does seem a common thing as I have seen quite a few that do appear to have a noticeable gap.. It's a shame as others may not notice it but it's one of them that will bug you when ever you see it again.. Lol
If any one can provide some information on reducing this gap please advice
Thank you

this guys walks through removal and installation of a bumper cover. you could probably follow this video and loosen the bolts and ask someone to hold the cover in place while you tightened it down.
BostonJon thank you, i have watched the video before and doesnt really show any way of adusting the gap betweeen fender and bumpr just talks about tighting bolts as you would in to the fenders from the underside of bumper

as i mentioned before, my advice is pretty straight forward.
1) loosen the bolts holding the cover to the body
2) ask a friend to push/pull/pry the bumper into the correct location moving section by section and tighten down the bolts as you go to hold it in place in the proper orientation.
i was able to adjust the bumper cover just enough to eliminate the gap where the hood meets the top of the headlights and the gap between the underside of the headlights and the bumper cover. i did not make any adjustments where the front fenders meet the bumper so it is possible that there is no adjustment possible in that location (however, i would doubt this due to the variability in pressed plastic components that would require slight adjustments when the car is assembled)
