Hello!
I'm currently working on a thesis at my school, which I decided to research on how will the coming diesel alternatives affect your choice of car. In this case, BMW 5-series in particular. You do have the twin-turbo 535i currently available, but I believe that the 535d will come along, as BMW has already officially announced the introduction of E90 335d into the US market at the Detroit Auto Show.
The survey consists of 12 quite simple questions, it is completely anonymous and non-commercial. Taking the short time of responding would help me a lot!

As someone who works in higher education, I always am more than happy to assist a scholar. Further, I commend you on researching such an interesting and relevant topic. Keep us posted on the results and best of luck on your thesis, and what I suspect is your approaching commencement!
Cheers, CWS530

My Ride: E46 330, E60 550 on order: Carbon Black/Natural Brown, 6MT.
Done.
It has slightly less power, but the real difference is likely due to gearing. With all that torque, BMW can use tall gears to get better efficiency, while still giving the driver the sense of acceleration they are looking for.

With so much torque, why is the 535d so much slower in 0-60 run?

So a 535d with 425 lb-ft but only 265 hp won't keep up with a 550, for example, with 360 lb-ft and 360 hp, because the 550 can apply its slightly less force much faster.
