Hello!

edit: The results are now finished, check them out at the third page of this thread.

I'm currently working on a thesis at my school, which I decided to research on how will the coming diesel alternatives affect your choice of car. In this case, BMW 5-series in particular. You do have the twin-turbo 535i currently available, but I believe that the 535d will come along, as BMW has already officially announced the introduction of E90 335d into the US market at the Detroit Auto Show.

Thank you for reading and responding. Huge thanks goes to e60.net admin for co-operating with this!

The survey consists of 12 quite simple questions, it is completely anonymous and non-commercial. Taking the short time of responding would help me a lot!

I appreciate the gesture, but inclusion of Canada into this project would have caused it to grow way too big for me. Its a whole different situation up there, even though many of the things seem to be the same.

CAFE and state-specific regulations concerning alternative fuels (=emissions) makes this challenging enough as it is.

So far, I'd like to thank everyone who has responded. We're off to a good start!

Don't know if it makes a difference to you, but I answered 'no' to the 'do you own a BMW?' question because mine hasn't arrived yet, so technically I don't own one, but it's just a matter of time (and hoping for good luck that the boat doesn't sink or tip over).

Submitted. With so much torque, why is the 535d so much slower in 0-60 run? Also in the US, diesel is taxed differently than gasoline which makes diesel usually more expensive. I think in Europe diesel is cheaper than gasoline. We do this here to push a higher financial burden on the commercial vehicle users, as they are currently the only users of diesel. The US should remove that incremental difference in taxes for the general public, whereby lowering diesel per gallon costs, thus further incouraging diesel acceptance by the general public. Letting diesel buyers use the currently useless HOV lanes would also help significantly in diesel acceptance.
