Bmw e60 525i Active steering Fault
Hi guys, i'm new to this forum and i need some assistance diagnosing my BMW's faults, i have a C110 scanner that has spat out these codes. It also has a yellow steering wheel with an exclamation in the dash.
These are the fault Codes: 614a: Motor position angle not initialised 6140: Redundancy comparison driver steering angle, top CE93: Message(steering- wheel angle top, OC8) after clearing the codes im only left with the 614a but then after a little while the rest of them return. The car was in a very light accident before this, but the steering angle is dead on straight and the c110 tells me it s0.0 and that its good. I dont know what to do i hope it isnt the steering rack. |
i cant help much, but did you make sure the power steering fluid level is ok?

yeah i did, the fluid is up to level and the pump is working.

Fix
I don't know for certain this is what it is, but I'd say there's a really good chance. I believe it is a steering angle sensor issue. What that is, is a clear disk inside the steering wheel housing that gets gummed up with nasty buildup and the sensor can no longer detect the steering wheel position.
I bought a 2006 530i a couple days ago and had similar symptoms (although I didn't have a codereader to check it). I decided to attempt the fix anyway because the symptoms were so close to what's described for this problem. I tore open the steering housing the night I bought the car and easily fixed it. I understand the dealer will charge between $1000 and $1400. Seriously easy fix. It took me 1.5 hours to do it. Steering angle sensor DIY fix - it worked - BMW M5 Forum and M6 Forums |
