Unhappy BMW e60 525d 96FD Airbag error

Hi, recently I replaced the passenger door because an old lady drove into it while trying to get out of the parking space... The problem is: I disconnected the battery, removed the Door panel, unplugged every single cable there (inclusive the one from the Airbag module). Replaced the door. I transfered all the cables and the Modul on the new door. Everything works...Mirror/ Up-Down Window button, Ambient lights when door is closed/ open... The only problem I have is that I got an Airbag error.

Car is a 2004.

JobStatus: OKAY

Variant: STVR

RESULT: 1 Error in error Memory !

96FD Spannungueberwachung ASE oberer Grenzwert ueberschritten

Error code: 96 FD 60

I tried to delete it more times, with clearing error history ... F5 F4 F2... it disappears but after 5 seconds it comes back on.

I went to somebody here in Germany and I paid him 65 euros to code the VIN into the module, restart the module, center the steering wheel sensor and systemzeitstarten. From what he told me, I have to unplug every cable again and clean them and spray them with Contact Spray. Cleaned them, replugged them and even unplugged the plug under the passenger seat, cleaned it also.

I replaced the Generator regulator, new battery in and also coded. Battery terminals are snug. Maybe a cable in the big plug between Door and Car is broken? He told me something about a White-Green cable but I can't find it anywhere. Like I said, I cleaned everything, sprayed everything. Only this error shows up.

Anyone any ideas what can it be?

Thank you very much!

I made a new thread because I couldn't find anything similar to my problem.

Is the new module brand new? If brand new, is it OEM? Is the passenger restraint notification showing in the i-Drive?

If you've done the above, replace it with the module the door came with. You're going to have to code the VIN and reset the trimming. It should work then. You might have had a spike in power when connecting the battery, and the cable wasn't all the way seated. Did you drop the module? Did you recheck pins and wiring?

I'm using the original Wiring loom and original Module + original Airbag and original door panel. The module somehow forgot the VIN and the guy recoded it and started the system time thingy and recalibrated the steering wheel sensor.

Yesterday I removed the door again and checked all the pins/ connections and cleaned everything. Even under the seat the yellow socket. Everything removed and cleaned and sprayed with Contact Spray. No damage found.

Edit: No, the module was not dropped. It was the whole time in car where it was pretty warm. And yes, the Faulty Restraint Systems error is showing up in iDrive

INPA error code

The new door I bought

Original Airbag door Module

The door after attaching it to the car with the original cables and module. All OEM, original to the car

Original Wiring loom serial number

Whenever I have the passenger restraint notification, for me its always the BST cable.

I then have to clear it multiple times in a certain sequence to eventually get the error to dismiss.

I tried to delete the error with INPA so many times... but it only disappears from iDrive for like 5 seconds but then again comes on, but on my cluster it stays on all the time. Airbag + Seatbelt error. Deleted it from Functional jobs and from the Engine and everywhere I could delete errors. What is the BST Cable?

BST = Battery Safety Terminal.

I forgot the sequence. Its something like disconnect BST connector, then power cable, then connect BST and positive cable, power on ignition and then delete error. Its also very possible your module could be damaged.

The guy that coded it said that the module is good. The module communicates with the OBD port and with the car. It could be coded with the VIN... and it's the original module that I found in the door. How can it go bad in like 30min? How should I search it on internet to find this BST reset thing? Cause I only find the BST to buy and some guys that are soldering a 2 Ohm resistor on an airbag cable next to the battery.

Just because it talks doesn't mean its good. You may need to confer with a software diagnostics specialist.

Did an airbag deploy during the accident?
