My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
In 1971, when I bought my first 2002, I had a guy ask me how to PRONOUNCE "BMW?" I replied, "B,M,W." He said, yeah, I know, but how do you SAY it? "Is it BUMwa or BimWA?" 
I nearly drove off the road, trying to keep from laughing out loud. Since then, I've told the story a million times, and for a while, even had it as my motorcycle plate. Those were the days when people guessed it stood for British Motor Works.
