I just change a new alternator voltage regulator and now it is charging and I have a new BMW Battery which is also fully charged. The thing is I still have the message saying my active steering is inactive and initializing. I try to reset the steering by turning all the way to left and to the right and put in the center position. Still it doesn't work at all. The steering is off position when I drive and it is so heavy as though I'm an old run down truck from the late fifties. Please give some advise.Thanking you all again.

Maybe you disconnect an electrical connection to the steering rack when changing the alternator and forgot to reconnect. Or, you pulled on the wires too hard and broke one internally? Start at the steering rack and go from there. Really seems electrical to me.
