are you using castrol 10w-60 in your 545, same as what is recommended for the m5? i was thinking of switching to mobil 5w-50, but everyone here says that is bad for the engine.

looks like that oil is keeping your metal parts from touching down!!!

Just curious, did you actually change the oil at 1,000 miles or did they draw a sample for testing?

For this test, I just drew a sample...I wanted to see if aluminum went down from the last test...

Yes it looks like Castrol, with the lack of Calcium and high Boron. Only two companies that uses that much Boron is Castrol and Pennzoil Ultra. So your Aluminum is 4@1,000 and 5@2,000 so it seems like your Aluminum is higher if you go by ppm/1000 miles. Obviously Aluminum is not linear as the Iron wear would be in an UOA. What does your owners manual say about the viscosity of the oil? I would try a lower viscosity oil. My personal favorite is Mobil 1 0w40. All the BMW UOA's on 0w40 M1 are generally spectacular. Do you spend much time on www.bobistheoilguy.com?

The recommended oil is 10W-60, going to test again in future to see if there is any change..
