I was told today by a friend that they saw black smoke blowing out of my tail pipe soon after pulling out of my drive way. Is it normal for a TT car to blow black smoke the odd time? Not sure if it's the first time or if it's a recurring thing! Any idea's what the problem could be?

Bro~ Black smoke out of the tail pipe usually means this:
Black smoke is caused by excess fuel that has entered the cylinder area and cannot be burned completely. Another term for excess fuel is "running rich." Poor fuel mileage is also a common complaint when black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. Black smoke out the tailpipe is the least cause for alarm. Excess fuel will usually effect engine performance, reduce fuel economy, and produce a fuel odor. A faulty fuel pump, a leaky fuel injector, a shorted or stuck fuel injector, or a failed fuel pressure regulator, vacuum leak, or a faulty engine computer or computer sensor are the usual causes. If black smoke is present, check the engine oil to make sure excess fuel has not contaminated it. Do not start the engine if a heavy, raw fuel smell can be detected in the engine oil.
Take your car to a BMW service center as soon as you can to get it checked out.

Thanks David! If the problem persists I'll take it in! Is it possible for it to be a one time thing? Maybe not letting the car idle long enough before leaving?

Maybe this will help.
When my buddy's 330i got snowed in, we started the car, let it run for 1min or so, then tried rocking it back and forth with revs not exceding 2.5k ... there was black soot (smoke and soot that settled on snow) coming out of his tailpipe. After we waited the problem did not come back.
I guess what I'm saying is that after starting the car (first time in a day) the computer runs it rich until warm up. You should have your buddy verify the black smoke after the car has reached operating temperatures.

btw let me know if you get you're tints done at EJ's. They do great work, and if you have any bubbling issues you can bring it back and have them fix it. In every window I had done I have 3 minor minor bubbles, which is great! Nobody ever gets a 100% perfect job, but I'd consider their work 99%. GL!

Bro~
If I leave my car sitting around for too long without driving it, say after a business trip or a vacation, I'll get a little black smoke when I start it. It may be a one time thing, but your car is still under warranty, so take it in to get it checked out. Better safe than sorry.
