I ordered an '08 528i and I got what I consider to be a pretty fair deal: $900 over invoice. I took the '07 invoice, added to it $1000 for what the estimated additional invoice would be on the '08 and added $900 to it (over invoice) to come up with what I will pay. If the new invoice is more or less than $1000, then I pay only that exact number--$1000 was just an estimate. I was told that the options should remain the same invoice price. I too almost bought an '07, and because I loved the interior changes to the '08, I put off my purchase. I got about the same deal, discount wise, I would have gotten on the '07, with a bigger engine and some nice refinement inside. I almost didn't want to say anything because I hate to jeopardize my deal, but everyone on this board is so helpful and candid, that I thought I'd let you know I was in the same boat and am very happy with my choice of the '08. Week 12 production, estimated April delivery. Good luck.
Right, but are you leasing or buying? If you are leasing, your MF is probably going to be in the neighborhood of .00260 or higher for a 2008, when it comes out. This is what mine was. Now, it's around .00150 for an xi and if you had a standard 530, it's around .00050 on a 36 month lease. That's a huge difference in your monthly payment. The price of the car is negligible at this point. It's all about lease factors. If the MF is high, you want to stay away and wait for things to cool down. Let the supply and demand go through it's stages and work itself out first. After that, lease rates will drop and the consumer will benefit!

I went to look at a new, loaded 4.8 X5 recently with the wife. Cost came out to around $73K, but the monthly payment on a lease was around $1350. The MF rate was approx .00350. They had no deals yet. In 6-8 months, this rate will drop to around .00225. Probably less for a 3L. At that point, the payment will probably be in the neighborhood of $900-$1000. For giggles, the dealer even lowered the price of the car to invoice, just to show me that no matter what he did with the actual price of the car, it wouldn't drop the lease payment that much. There simply weren't any lease programs out yet that made sense for any serious buyers. The only people that would benefit right now were those that wanted to buy...which he told me was 1 out of every 10 customers that walked in each day.

You sure about that? Even for the US? I'm pretty sure March is the month in the US. My 2007 release date was March. I didn't get my car until June, but I ordered it in March and the dealer had some floor inventory of the 2007's when I went in.

Yeah, your's was probably not a concern to them since you went back with your original order. However, if someone orders a 2007 then switches to a 2008, the dealer now has a 2007 on their lot that they have to sell. This is why they would keep the deposit. It'll make the buyer think twice, depending on the amount put down.
I did actually order 2007, then went to 2008 and then back. But you may be right since my initial order didn't go into production yet. Also, maybe dealer took into account that I didn't order exotic color/leather/options combination so he knew he could easily sell the car I ordered if I switched.

You won't be able to negotiate a discount on 2008 model when it just come out, and end up paying a lot more than 2007 model.

You might change your mind and purchase a different car by then.

People were buying '07 in April of '06. Since when does the calendar year have anything to do with the MY?
