I ordered a 2007 525xi, and was about to take delivery within a week. After reading some of the additional features of the 2008 model I decided to cancel my order. I am not sure if that was a wise decision. Does anyone know when the exact release date is for the 2008 model, and if I will be able to bargain for a good price with the dealer. I got a couple of thousand off the msrp for the 2007 model, and wondering if anyone in this forum was able to knock down the price when they proorederd the 2008. Im just worried that I have to wait another few months and have to pay much more for the 2008's. If anyone can help me out that would be great.

Thanks,
Jamie

March is the release date. I wouldn't count on any deals until 4-6 months after the release date. Did you lease or buy? If you leased, MF rates won't start dropping until mid to late summer. I went through this exact scenario this time, last year. I pre-ordered my 2007 and didn't want to wait. There were no lease programs when I got my car and I'm paying up the wazhoo. Had I waited 6 months after the release date, I could have saved about $175/month or gone for a fully loaded 550 for the price I'm paying now.

Just curious, but did you lose your security deposit when you canceled?

I was going to buy the 2007 model, and yeah i was afraid that I wasnt going to be able to get a deal with for the 2008 models. The dealer said that he had to talk to his manager about the deposit, and get back to me soon. Which means probably that I am screwed out of the money.

I ordered 2007 530xi same day BMW press release went out so I switched to 2008 535xi, but then decided to go back to 2007 model. I test drove 335i (it is as heavy as 530i) and didn't like new turbo engine, at least not with steptronic. Plus, 530xi is way less expensive since 2008 models will be sold at sticker.

I did not lose the deposit. My dealer told me that as long as I am buyng BMW, my deposit is safe. I.e., if I find, say, a CPO car, the deposit will be applied to the CPO car.

Yeah, your's was probably not a concern to them since you went back with your original order. However, if someone orders a 2007 then switches to a 2008, the dealer now has a 2007 on their lot that they have to sell. This is why they would keep the deposit. It'll make the buyer think twice, depending on the amount put down.

Yeah, custom built will be May, but dealers will have stock of the 535xi in March. It just won't be loaded or built to a lot of owners needs/wants.

Yeah man, I honestly think that by the time a lease program comes out for the 535xi and you order it to your specs, you're looking at Sept/Oct delivery at the earliest. However, you can gamble and pre-order the car shortly after it's released and hope by the time you get it, a lease program is in effect. This is what I did, but it didn't happen until 2 months after I took delivery. Basically, the dealer said that should a lease program come out between the time I ordered and the time I took delivery, the numbers could totally go down and be in my favor. They would have to honor this. Fortunately for the dealer and BMW, it didn't happen. Just a thought...

Yeah, thats why I think it might have been a mistake to cancel my order. Ill probably lose my security deposit, and now I have to wait till sept at least to get the car I want for a much higher price. Maybe I shouldve stick with the 07 model.

I ordered an '08 528i and I got what I consider to be a pretty fair deal: $900 over invoice. I took the '07 invoice, added to it $1000 for what the estimated additional invoice would be on the '08 and added $900 to it (over invoice) to come up with what I will pay. If the new invoice is more or less than $1000, then I pay only that exact number--$1000 was just an estimate. I was told that the options should remain the same invoice price. I too almost bought an '07, and because I loved the interior changes to the '08, I put off my purchase. I got about the same deal, discount wise, I would have gotten on the '07, with a bigger engine and some nice refinement inside. I almost didn't want to say anything because I hate to jeopardize my deal, but everyone on this board is so helpful and candid, that I thought I'd let you know I was in the same boat and am very happy with my choice of the '08. Week 12 production, estimated April delivery. Good luck.
