So im noticing that my brakes - while very effective at stopping the car leave a LOT of dust on my rims even after a short time driving. Are they really deteriorating that quickly? I like to think i can downshift effectively and put some of that stopping force back on the engine but they throw a LOT of dust. is there a better brand of pads for the e60 than the dealer reccommended set?

I got Hawk HPS pads from Acuteperformance, love them, great bite - no fade - and little dust. PM member acuteperformance

I still haven't figured out if its better stopping, but it is definitely not worse than stock. Great price too, Michael

Remember back a year and a half ago, when I didn't order R1 Concepts from you? I think I might need to soon - I think those Centrics warped. I'll give you a holler in a few weeks about it though - got a few other minor maintenance issues to look into first.

I like akebonno euro ceramics. Have them on my other BMW's but not on the E60 yet, so not 100% sure they are available for the E60. They are easy on the rotors, virtually dustless, and exhibit good pedal feel.

I had always heard that ceramics are great for racing but not for normal DD. I heard they have to reach a higher temperature to get the stopping benefit from them. While they are cool, stopping may not be great, and street driving does not allow them to reach that critical temp to get all the benefit.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Ceramic pads are horrible for racing. The compound is so hard that's why they produce less dust. You're thinking about ceramic rotors.
