Belt Squealing from Coolant spill (hose broke)
#1
hi all,
I had my return hose to the Radiator broke and i replaced the hose with a new one, but another problem just emerged. The Belt has been squealing when i start the car, but when i drive it for a while it'll stop squealing. I've bought some Oreily BELT conditioner and it is still squealing. i'm thinking of putting some soap water on the belt so that it'll remove the oiliness from the rubber of the BELT. Does anybody have any idea how to get rid of this annyoing noise.

i've never had much luck with belt dressing, especially on a belt that has been worn smooth on the ribs.
try washing it like you said. use a degreaser of some sort...simple green etc.
may just be cheaper and faster to change the belt.

Belt dressings are not recommended for serpentine belts. I suppose the simple green may help remove the slippery coolant and belt dressing ... try to use a brush and diluted simple green to get the grooves and tensioner guides cleaned up .... it's a mild detergent that shouldn't harm the belt or tensioners. If the squeal doesn't go away you may need to replace the belt. Time to check the tensioners too!

Point is to avoid aggressive "chemical" cleaning products or degreasing cleaners that could cause more harm than good.
