Agree 100%. I bought the BMW one from Garry, but it's just a Deltran with a BMW logo. One dead battery replaced after 8-9 months (goodwill) was enough for me to throw in the towel.

I have a 4 step battery tender that I'm using right now for my tennis ball machine and it works great I just haven't used it yet for my car since I don't have any battery problem.

that's the one i got, and i plug in for two days now, is it ok if i keep it plugged it?
I left mine on for 9 days while I was on vacation. The instruction manual indicates that this is perfectly acceptable as the charger automatically works to keep the battery "topped off." I've read about car collectors who keep battery tenders on for months at a time (during the winter, for example) between drives.

For anyone who is on the fence, a $45 charger sure beats $400+ for a BMW battery!

Is a battery tender anything like a chicken tender?

My Alternator was Not a problem at all and it is healthy.

They tested it every time they worked on a battery.

BMW assist and Nav and other crap keeps draining battery even if the car is locked. My commute is very less and many times I ride motorcycle to work.

I keep it hooked to battery tender. There are 2 lights, Green and Red, Red means it is charging, green means it is storage charging. Switch is automatic.

Guys, is a battery TENDER the same thing as a battery charger? If so, then I am on the right track.

I have always used a battery charger that has trickle charge and OFF when battery is full. When ever I get a chance I just charge the battery and in all my previous cars, replacing the battery has been a rare thing. Remember selling a 5year old 320i with its original battery.

anyway last month for some UNKNOWN reason, when I started the car I got a warning message. It claimed that something has discharged the battery excessively. I could not get my head around what it was and also the the message system is rubbish.

Needless to say I charged the car but still got the message. This went on for 3 times. Finally in the evening, I removed the terminals and left the car over night charging. Problem seemed to have gone. I suspect it was either the SAT NAV DVD or the BMW ONline not switching off despite me locking the car.

I too would agree with everyone here, get a battery charger with trickle charge (ie slow charge) with function to use on sealed batteries and use it as frequent as possible. It won't do any harm.

cheers

There's no wikipedia page for it so I googled it. I think battery tender is a specific brand:
