Yea, I also noticed the "okay" pop-up message comes up as soon as you hit the key. It almost seems like it didn't do anything. It must be just a [software] reset of the battery installation date. So, it shouldn't take any real time to 'set' or 'record' the registration date.

INPA software guys should've built a few seconds of 'hour-glass' to make us feel like the software is doing something

I ended up bowing down to the dealer. Cost about $150 more than the DIY with indy shop registration, but saved me several hours of time.

is this something you/I can do manually or is the dealer required? if so, what is required to do this? ive had my e60 less than a year.

Hi,

Sorry to jack the thread.. but my car is also having problems and the battery light came on, albeit the car starts and stops okay, there definitely seems to be a lack of power.

Diagnostic show all clear and my mechanic used a voltmeter check the battery and it appears okay, however he indicated a possible dodgy ground, but was not 100% certain on this.

We were going to replace the battery, but the coding of the keys and system prevented us going any further; according to information provided by others, once you take the battery out everything coding wise needs resetting... is this true, if so what are the implications of this change?

Is it possible to code everything up yourself or is this strictly a main dealer job?

If somebody has some useful links that are not too technical or break things down in simple terms, that would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks, I was always curious as what "registering" a battery accomplished.
