If im understanding your question correctly. I think it would be similar to the e92 where the computer? needs to be reset for the car to even start.

I've disconnected and reconnected batteries in my E60's in the course of mods that require temporarily removing steering wheel and door panel airbags. No issue other than loss of current date and time.

2004 and 2010. I also replaced the battery and registered the battery replacement on the 2004.

How do you register a battery replacement? What tools or software do you need or is this something you do in the cabin via the i-drive etc? Any useful info would be greatly appreciated!
