I need to jump my other car off (non bimmer), and was wondering is it safe to use my 550 as the jump source? If so, would I use the + terminal under the hood to connect the + cable to...and as far a the - cable, should I ground it to the chassis? Or is it better/ easier to jump directly off the battery in the trunk?
Thanks
Thanks

Either way you are safe. the positive terminal under the trunk essentially serves the same purpose as the positive terminal on the battery. Make sure you find a solid ground though, a painted surface may not due the trick. the neg on the battery terminal is a sure thing.

hook up the positives, hook up the neg battery term on the dead car, then try a ground on the bmw, if your car seems to lose power, it is, voltage is dipping due to power transfer to the dead car. this means you have found a good ground clip on and start the dead car
sorry for the post whoring. contrary to popular belief it is safe to hook up the negatives before the positives. i was trying to reply fast because usually a dead car is a time sensative issue. its the problem you find when you are running 10 mins behind schedule...

Thanks...I feel like a big dummy asking such a simple question for a simple task.....but with how "high tech" the electronics seem to be on these cars, I'd rather be safe than sorry
power is power is power when you are talking about a primative 12v source like a car battery. if you are unsure, def go battery to battery. i am new to the high tech bmws, this may cause an error to display in your car because of the power dip, i dont know, but when you unhook the jumper cables, you should be fine again.

Where are the preferred grounding points on a e60? Rad support, or strut tower maybe?
hmm, teh rad support sounds like a solid ground. damn, back in the old days, (i know i am only 26) i would throw the B on the alternator bracket

I wouldnt use your E60 to jump any car... There's a HIGH chance that'll it'll cause tons of errors due to the current draw.
