Thanks,
I say time to change it. Personally, I would get the same OEM battery (with same rating and capacity). If that battery lasted 7 years, I would get the same one. I've never had a battery last more than 2.5-4 years when purchased from Autozone or Pepboys for my other cars. I've always done that pro-rate crap they do which is a hastle. I would get OEM, install it yourself, and have it registered by an independent BMW shop. But that's another topic...

Great, I will search the OEM with same rating battery. Definitely install it myself. I am still not sure about the registration though...

Thanks,

Just call around to find the Interstate MTP-H9 battery. 3 Firestone stores did not stock this battery. Direct Tires had it but $28x including tax. This is more than dealer price (Exidie battery). I found an online store who sell this battery at less than $200 ($172) from NY. Anyone heard or ordered from this online store: http://www.batteriesexpressinc.com/i...roducts_id=125 ?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Contact them first and see if they are willing to ship. I got mine from a local dealer since most online shops won't ship batteries since they are considered hazzardous material.

According to BMW dealer, it needs to be registered. I don't know about the cost. However, members in this forum saying that they never register their battery and have no issue with it.

I had mine registered by an independent shop for $50.

If the replacement battery has the same spec as the original, it's probably okay to not register...However, I would do it anyway.

If the replacement battery is a different spec, then I feel you should. There's a thread in the DIY section showing how you can use INPA to tell the car what the new specs are for the new battery. The car has to be told what the new rating is or else it won't properly charge the battery.

Get the same type and capacity of battery and you should be fine. On the safe side, reset the IBS (register battery change procedure) after battery replacement. Here are the supported batteries on the E60.

good luck!
I thought that the car would need to be reprogrammed after you remove the battery?
