Battery Discharge/Electrical Draw ??
Hi... I'm relatively new BMW 2008 528XI E60/LCI owner.
Love the car, at least its driveability.... but its also a steep learning curve and I, like the rest of the world , have battery drain problems.
I bought the car used and it had a standard flooded lead/acid battery with the sticker scratched off. I can not determine if the model originally came with an AGM or whether it was ever recalibrated when this May 2011 battery was put in. (All the normal stickers were removed on the battery except the date punch out thing that indicates it was installed May 2011.)
I have a charger wired in as everyone has explained, but the present batterry has basically refused to maintain a charge. In replacing it, I've been testing the system that has produced several questions I have and hope someone can give me a clue on:
1) Testing my amp draw when the car has gone to sleep (about 10-12 minutes) after shutting it off,,,, I'm showing an amp draw of about 500 milliamp. (Seems alot to me when I figure the only thing that should be drawing is the security system. ) Does anyone know what should be the amp draw be when the car has been shut down and asleep.????
2) When testing my battery draw, I had put the car on lock and when I disconected the negative batterry terminal (positive was still connected), the siren went off full blast. So without any battery connected, the secirity siren went off. So does the security/siren system have it's own battery, or where the hell did the power come from to run the siren????
Thanks for any help in understanding this car.
Best to ya
Peter

Anti-theft system has it's own battery. That battery is integrated as part of the anti-theft siren. Typically, they are under one of the wheel wells (under the splash liner).

PCY...Thank you....
This car is an enigma to me...BMW has seemed to think of everything...so much so that it confuses me... created a terrific ride/response and aesthetics... but also seems that in all its complexity, BMW has failed to a degree in reliability/longevity...sometimes referred to as " quality".
Regardless... I love her... and thank you for helping me understand..
