My battery had gone bad I wanted to change it. I bought the new one from a battery store, not from the dealer.
The previous/original battery was 90Ah and the new one is 100Ah (Exide Premium EA1000).

So I called my dealer is the de-coding needed or not. This is what they replied.

There are three choices:
1) The dealer programs the whole car (includes the registering the battery) - Approx. 100? and few hours
2) The dealer just registers the battery - 40? and 1/2 hour
3) Don't do anything and if problems occure go to dealer for registering.

The registering is only to tell the SIB how to load the battery.
So I changed mine today and maybe get the battery registered some day soon. That 40? doesn't sound bad.

A misterious 007 by BMW who lurks the forum (and doesn't write nor help, he just has fun to say he knows everything but no real suggestions at the end) told me your car has to know which battery it has installed.

You can set 110A if you have a 90, but not 90 with a 110.

I don't know if they can register the amperage of a battery different from OEM ones (80, 90, 110). From what our hidden friend said, I assume you could register 110 if 100 isn't possible.

Obviously our BMW 007 will read this message but he won't answer.

I profit of the topic to ask: is a 110A heavier than the 90? And which difference?

I didn't consider the 100Ah any heavier than 90Ah.

Hmmm... the speech that 100Ah wouldn't be current for E60...? I don't buy that since the Exide lists my car for this battery.
And besides everything works great.
