I brought the car to the dealership (still under CPO) with the above symptoms and the SA estimated $400 just to diagnose problems and he believed that even if they did find anything that they probably wouldn't be covered under CPO. Needless to say i didn't leave the car. On the plus side, after a few days of driving, the problems are disapearing. I did top off the hydraulic fluid and since I have not had any Dynamic Drive Failures. The electrical problems seem to be slowly stabilizing on their own. Maybe the new battery just needed a few days to stabilize since I did not "register" it. Even better - South Bay BMW left me a message on Sat. informing me that my car was ready for pickup

What I also heard is if you don't register the new battery, the car will think it still has an very old battery and tries to conserve the electricity by disabling non-essential functions, which means you may get all sort of error messages.

My dealer charged me about $60 to register my own new battery. Also, right on the battery compartment, there is a label that says "after disconnecting battery, initialize the car blah blah....".

Would you mind sharing what BMW dealership charged you only $60 to register your own battery? My SA said if I bought my own battery, he'll install it for free if I go to them, Pacific BMW in Glendale, CA, to register the battery for $150...

Granted I may not need a new battery yet, but it seems like it may be the case soon.

Can any of the engine scanners and/or pc scanners reset or "register" the battery?

Do you know how much does an Indy shop charge to "register" the new battery.?

Looks like my Battery Tender will never off the car when the car is parked in my garage.

no need to register the battery if you get same spec.... i even got mine from auto zone and had no problems yet..(knock on wood)
