I got the basic sound system on my car, and id like it improved.
Anyone had any experience with doing self upgrades ?
like an added amp or sub etc ?
any advice would be appreciated.

Try to get installed a Alpine system! Subwoofer..+ speakers + amp. It sounds better than a Pioneer. If you can get a Bose.. better. But Alpine should be enough.
It will sound great. Too bad you didn't chose the Logic7. As we discussed it in another thread.. it is one of the best audio systems available on any car!

You will keep the main CD unit! You will only change your actual speakers with Alpine speakers.. add a subwoofer in the trunk if you want and a amp to increase the power. That's all. You will do this with a few hundred pounds. Go to a local Alpine dealer and he will show you what he can do. YOu will be more than satisfied!

I dont know what is going on but, i am happy with my sound system. I have regular on system but my jazz sound much better than my preview 525i 2002. I love the bass of the 525.
Oh wait, .........I like to hear the sound inside not outside? Maybe that is why i am not complaining about the sound?

radus: have you got more specific details on what kit you're talking about ? I, too, would like an improved sound system and I like the idea of new (better) loudspeakers and perhaps a sub - I do not want to replace the CD drive or any existing functionality ..

I can't tell you the exact names of the speackers but, if you go to a nearby Alpine dealer he will recomend you the best he has! He can even mesure your car's acoustics and tell you precisely what kind of improvement you need.
Belive me.. Alpine sounds FANTASTIC!

Been to that website ... but all mentions of the 5 series refer to the previous version of the car and not the new e60 model.... and its the custom fit speakers I'm after.
