My Ride: 2005 530i - Titanium Silver Premium Sports Package 20"Chrome Wheels w/ Black Removable Inserts 20% Titanium Black Tint Whats next...?
Default

Ok, I been reading a few topics now and have come to the conclusion that 50/50 highway and city driving should give me about 21-22 MPG which is roughly about 10.5 - 11 L/100km. I am getting 13.5 L/100 km which is about 17.42 MPG. That is me being completely conservative. Sometimes my average on a tank is much worse. What could my problem be. I have just changed the spark plugs, air filters, oil, oil filter, thermostat. I dont know what else to do. I have had this car for 6 months and now its just ridiculous to get 400-450 km on a $90 fill up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Remember its a 2004 530i sport/premium package. Thanks in advance E60.net always comes through.

did you check the oxygen sensors, air tires? they involve a lot of the gas.

your 530i should go about 24-25 mpg on HWY/CITY if you drive it in full D (no trying to race o something like that) lol.

I forgot to add.... Are you using regular or premium gas?

I have the same car as you, but with stock 17" wheels. Over the two years I've had it, I've averaged around 20 mpg in Houston traffic (maybe 75% street and 25% freeway @ 60-70 mph). I keep the front at 36 psi and the rear at 40 and use premium fuel.

Could the difference in wheel size (your 20 vs my 17) increase rolling resistance and thereby reduce mileage?

I have found that if I'm in DS mode and driving at all aggressively, the mileage quickly drops to 17-18 [measured on the computer for about a half tank basis]. Since aggressive and conservative are so subjective, maybe that's in play for you...???

Based on his sig he has 20" chrome wheels. Those have to weigh a ton. Try some lighter wheels.

I drive conservatively and constantly average 17.4 MPG in my 05 530i. It sucks! I purchased it thinking I'd get mid twenties. I'd say 75% of my driving is city, 25% highway.

I dont race the car at all i think it woul probably give me 10 MPG if I did!! LOL....air in the tires are fine. Oxygen sensors did not come up faulty when the BMW computer system was hooked up to it. Everything says "ok" I wish I could get 24-25MPG!!!!
