Bad fuel consumption
#1
Hi, I am a newbie from London, UK.
I have just bought a Thailand imported 525i and my OBC fuel consumption is showing something rediculously low at 13mpg. It should be at 20mpg.
I do mainly city driving, and my previous X5 3.0i returned a respectable 17mpg. So is there something wrong here?
Could the OBC be using a US gallon? Or does having the advance air conditioning Auto button permanently on cause it to use more fuel?

Yes, having the A/C allways on means, you need more fuel. But that shouldn't be that much.
You can check in your i-menu if the car is using the US-MPG's.
Go to the settings and check if it is set to UK or US.

How would you do that? I can't remember seeing anything referencing UK or US.

Okay, I've checked. The units is definitely set to UK gallon. I am now really disappointed. How can it be worst than a X5 3.0i? I'll try another week without the A/C on. It is winter here so A/C can go off.

Try testing it on a open road, clear the OBC mpg and crusing only at 65mph for a while see how the consumption is... stop and go city traffic is really bad for fuel consumption.
Also check the engine oil level make sure its good.
Check the tire pressure make sure thats good. I say run a little more than recommeded
