My Ride: 520d LCI, old engine, manual, black dakota, platingrau II, standard (242?) rims.

I have a 520d LCI on order (planned delivery May 10).

The salesman indicated that the backseat side airbags option (261) might not be a good one with young kids, as the airbags may blow away child seats upon deployment. However, he wasn't really sure and didn't want to outright advise against it. To me, my first though was: the more airbags for my two princesses (one almost 3 and the other pushing one and a half), the better.

But now I wonder whether he might be right: should I take the back seat side airbags? O, I plan to keep the car nigh on forever, so I will also be taking into account the situation when the oldest reaches 10 (or even 12).

Great question, I have a 4 year old next to a side airbag in the back... I think there is a way to disable them... but I think it has to be done by the dealer.

Anyone heard about the dealer being able to do this?

Interesting post .... ive ordered 261 for my LCI for the same reasons ( 2 boys 1.5 and 3.5) ....... what surprising also is such a statement from the dealer , if i was his manager i'd fire his ass.

There's no easy answer to this one...simply because there are two strong schools of thought. I'm in the camp that says leave the airbags activated and be diligent enough to make sure your kids are properly restrained...

Happy reading!

The E60 is crash tested for kids in the back seat with great results!

BMW also have seats design for kids of various ages and the E60 has the ISOFIX-standrad seat system.

The rear seat airbags are in no harm for the kids, as long as they are seated in proper kids seats!

Once again an idiot BMW salesmen, contact the BMW Importer in your area!

Thanks for the replies. Thanks Rudy for the reading material - I read it all. Very insightful!

I'll definitely keep the option, but may opt to deactivate them. I don't know yet.

And only now I remember: I should search the forum before posting
