Okay so as the topic suggests Im looking for a decently priced (I dont want to pay much more than $500) set of back feet for my 550i. Id like something thats firm on the inside and water dispersing on the outside. Does this sound like a good recipe? I know these things are cambered so heavily in the back the inside of the tire is where most of your bite comes from. Does this make sense that if the outside of the tire is grooved to displace water I'll have the best of both worlds or do the water grooves need to be on the inside of the tire for them to work appropriately in the rain?

Also I have the 166 19" rims on the back - I need 275 - 30 - 19's allegedly... but I see some people talking about going with 35's instead of 30's what are the advantages/disadvantages between the 30's and the 35's setups.

Its all about rim protection and ride with 35 or greater sidewall. on your 9.5 inch rear rim 285/30 or 275/35...should suffice

Thats an interesting statement... When I bought my 5 the chap who sold it to me said the original owner had purchased super-duper rim insurance through BMW - they are supposedly insured against like any damage to 150,000mi (Im sure road rash doesnt count). So If a wheel gets bent or cracked I get a new one (and I'd LOVE a new one ). So I should def shoot for a 275 35 ? or should i get a 285 30? whats the difference? am I going to bo rubbing at that size? If i *want* the rim to brake are there advantages to having a 275/30?

Also if anyone knows what kind of rim protection policy Im talking about I'd love to actually see a copy of it so i can read up on it.

I've heard of rim protection policy but not sure if it's transferable though. If it is purchased directly with BMW, may be you can give them a call and through the VIN number, they can tell you what is covered with the car.
