Hey I'm in the same boat with some of you, having two toddlers. I've had to squeeze a pre-teenager who fits just fine in between...but I would not recommend it for daily or long-distance driving. On the other hand, though I would prefer, and like the conveniences of a minivan, my wife refuses to drive one, so we opt to have an suv with 3 rows. If only the 5 Series station wagon, or the X5 came with a 3rd row...I'd be all over it!

I agree completely with the minivan aspect very practical as a people hauler i have 3 daughters 15 11 8 pretty tall girls also with long feet.
in the bimmer the eight year old will sit behind me cause i drive with the seat all the way back and slightly down, the 11 year old will sit in the middle and the oldest behind my wife as she can slide up the seat if needed but doesn't have to,
We have two minvans a 1996 dodge caravan and a 2005 nissan quest (her suprise for mothers day it is just down right comfortable funny looking but the kids love the space and the dvd player is just a bonus.
We also have two bmws an e60 and a e34 and though we can fit us all in either one long trips and practicality outway good looks and performance.
can't believe i just said that but its true

[/quote]That's probably why they have more money. They don't spend it on expensive luxury items. Rich people in my experience tend to lead less outwardly 'showy' lifestyles than those who are upper middle class. I read somewhere that the single most popular vehicle for people whose net worth is over $1 million is a Ford F series.

I bought my first BMW last year when my family grew to 4, and went with an 04 330i 6spd performance package which I really love.? This is the first 4 door sedan that I thought was really fun to drive.? Now we are expecting another newbie in September and looking at upgrading to a 550i.? I'm hoping it will hold 5 without too much discomfort.
Does anyone have experience with stuffing 2 car seats and a skinny pre-teen in the back seat?? Your input is greatly appreciated!

Sorry to Hijack your thread. In answer to your question sit in the middle back seat and have the dealer push both seats back and take you for a drive.
So you can experience what your kids almost feel like in the back.
In my opinion the back seat is tight quarters.

My Ride: E60 "Stripper"
Now C6 "Stripper"

The E60 has plenty of room in the backseat. Rear active/ventilated comfort seats with rear I-drive and OEM entertainment system would also be a plus.

I got the E60 for 2 reasons. Better rear legroom that a 3er and wider than a 3er. So I can fit adults in the back in reasonable comfort.
My 2 boys love the E60. My wife has what I guess is a "minivan". In Europe it's known as a min-MPV. A Renault Scenic. Soon to be replaced by a 7 seater, either a new Scenic or the VW Touran. There's more rear legroom in the Scenic than my E60. We've looked at the X3, but it's not as practical. The Mercedes A class is too small. The X5 might be good in the school carpark, but it's not what we'd like as a family car. Until there's a premium brand mini-MPV, we'll stick to the one's available. (BMW/Audi there's an order waiting)
